Beef and Broccoli Lo Mein

Here’s a Beef and Broccoli Lo Mein recipe that you can easily make at home, featuring tender beef and crispy broccoli served with flavorful stir-fried noodles. This recipe is quick, savory, and perfect for a weeknight dinner!

Beef and Broccoli Lo Mein

Ingredients:

  • 8 oz lo mein noodles
  • 1 lb beef (flank steak or sirloin), thinly sliced against the grain
  • 2 cups broccoli florets (fresh or frozen)
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce (or tamari for gluten-free)
  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 2 teaspoons rice vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons hoisin sauce
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 2 teaspoons garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon ginger, minced
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil (for stir-frying)
  • 1/2 cup water (or beef broth for more flavor)
  • Optional garnishes: sesame seeds, sliced green onions, or chili flakes

Instructions:

1. Cook the Lo Mein Noodles:

  • Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Add the lo mein noodles and cook according to package instructions (usually about 4-5 minutes).
  • Once cooked, drain and set aside. Toss the noodles with a little bit of sesame oil to keep them from sticking.

2. Prepare the Beef:

  • Thinly slice the beef against the grain into bite-sized pieces. To make slicing easier, you can freeze the beef for about 30 minutes before slicing.
  • In a small bowl, mix 1 tablespoon soy sauce, 1 tablespoon oyster sauce, and 1 tablespoon cornstarch to marinate the beef. Set aside for at least 10 minutes.

3. Stir-Fry the Broccoli:

  • In a large pan or wok, heat 1 tablespoon vegetable oil over medium-high heat.
  • Add the broccoli florets and stir-fry for about 3-4 minutes until they are bright green and tender-crisp. If needed, add a splash of water or broth to help steam the broccoli.
  • Remove the broccoli from the pan and set it aside.

4. Stir-Fry the Beef:

  • In the same pan, add 1 tablespoon sesame oil over medium-high heat.
  • Add the marinated beef slices to the pan and stir-fry for about 3-4 minutes until the beef is browned and cooked through.
  • Add the minced garlic and ginger to the beef and stir for another 30 seconds until fragrant.

5. Combine Noodles and Sauce:

  • Add the cooked lo mein noodles to the beef and garlic mixture.
  • In a small bowl, whisk together the remaining 1 tablespoon soy sauce, 2 teaspoons rice vinegar, 2 tablespoons hoisin sauce, and 1/2 cup water (or beef broth). Pour this sauce over the noodles and beef mixture, tossing everything together until well coated and heated through.

6. Add Broccoli:

  • Return the cooked broccoli to the pan and toss everything together gently.

7. Serve:

  • Serve the Beef and Broccoli Lo Mein hot, garnished with sesame seeds, sliced green onions, or chili flakes if desired.

Tips:

  • Substitutes: If you don’t have lo mein noodles, you can use any other stir-fry noodles like egg noodles or udon. Just make sure to cook them according to the package instructions.
  • Extra Vegetables: You can add other vegetables like bell peppers, carrots, or snap peas for extra flavor and crunch.
  • Beef Alternatives: If you prefer chicken or pork, you can swap the beef for thinly sliced chicken breasts or pork tenderloin.

This Beef and Broccoli Lo Mein is a satisfying and flavorful dish that brings together tender beef, crisp broccoli, and savory noodles. Perfect for a quick dinner that tastes like it came straight from a restaurant! 🍜🍖🌿
