  • Total Time: 1 hour 30 minutes
  • Yield: 10 servings 1x

Description

A rich, buttery, and moist pound cake, a beloved classic in Black American households, known for its dense texture and sweet vanilla flavor.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 ½ cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 6 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 325°F (163°C) and grease a bundt or loaf pan.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with milk.
  6. Stir in the vanilla extract until fully combined.
  7. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top.
  8. Bake for 1 hour to 1 hour 15 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  9. Let cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

For a richer flavor, use buttermilk instead of whole milk. Serve with fresh fruit or a dusting of powdered sugar.
