Ingredients
Scale
- 3 large apples (Honeycrisp, Granny Smith, or Gala)
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 tbsp granulated sugar
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1 tsp baking powder
- ¼ tsp salt
- 1 large egg
- 1 cup milk
- Oil for frying (vegetable or canola)
- For Coating:
- ½ cup granulated sugar
- 1 tsp cinnamon
Instructions
- Prep the Apples: Peel the apples and core them. Slice into ¼ to ⅓-inch thick rings. Pat dry with paper towels.
- Make the Batter: In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, cinnamon, baking powder, and salt. In another bowl, beat the egg with milk. Gradually add the wet mixture to the dry ingredients, whisking until smooth.
- Heat the Oil: In a deep skillet or frying pan, heat about 1½ inches of oil over medium heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
- Fry the Apple Rings: Dip each apple ring into the batter, letting the excess drip off. Carefully place into the hot oil. Fry 2–3 rings at a time for about 2–3 minutes per side, or until golden brown. Use a slotted spoon to remove and place on a paper towel-lined plate.
- Coat in Cinnamon Sugar: While still warm, toss the rings in a cinnamon-sugar mixture to coat.
Notes
Serving Ideas: Serve warm with caramel sauce or maple syrup drizzle. Top with vanilla ice cream for a dreamy dessert. Pack them up for a sweet lunchbox surprise!
