  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Description

This One Skillet Cajun Honey Garlic Sausage and Rice is a flavor-packed, one-pan wonder that combines smoky sausage, aromatic vegetables, and perfectly cooked rice in under 40 minutes. With its balance of heat, sweetness, and savory goodness, it’s perfect for busy weeknights or casual dinners.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 14 oz (400g) smoked sausage, sliced into rounds (substitute with turkey, beef, or plant-based sausage)
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 1 bell pepper (any color), chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup long-grain white rice (or brown rice for a healthier option)
  • 2 cups chicken broth (or vegetable broth for vegetarian)
  • 1 tablespoon Cajun seasoning (or homemade blend)
  • 2 tablespoons honey (or maple syrup for variation)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • A handful of chopped fresh parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Heat the Oil and Brown the Sausage: Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add sausage slices in a single layer and cook until golden-brown, about 5 minutes. Remove and set aside.
  2. Create the Aromatic Base: In the same skillet, sauté onion and bell pepper for 3-4 minutes until softened. Add garlic and cook for 60 seconds more.
  3. Toast and Coat the Rice: Add uncooked rice to the skillet and stir constantly for 1-2 minutes to toast lightly.
  4. Combine All Ingredients: Return the sausage to the skillet. Add chicken broth, Cajun seasoning, honey, salt, and pepper. Stir well to combine and deglaze the pan.
  5. Simmer to Perfection: Bring to a simmer, reduce heat to low, cover, and cook undisturbed for 20 minutes, or until rice is tender and liquid is absorbed.
  6. Rest and Garnish: Let rest, covered, for 5 minutes. Fluff with a fork and garnish with fresh parsley before serving.

Notes

Don’t overcrowd the pan when browning the sausage—cook in batches if needed. Resist stirring the rice during cooking to ensure proper texture. For extra brightness, add a squeeze of lemon juice before serving.
