- 2 sheets puff pastry, thawed
- 4 cups whole milk
- 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
- 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 8 eggs, separated
- 3 teaspoons vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Roll out the puff pastry sheets and bake for 15-18 minutes until golden brown. Let cool.
- In a saucepan, heat milk over medium heat until warm but not boiling.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together egg yolks, sugar, and flour until smooth.
- Slowly add warm milk to the egg mixture, whisking constantly.
- Return mixture to the saucepan and cook over medium heat, stirring continuously until thickened.
- Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract. Let custard cool.
- Spread the custard over one puff pastry sheet, then top with the second sheet.
- Refrigerate for at least 2 hours before slicing into squares and serving.
Notes
Dust with powdered sugar or drizzle with melted chocolate for an extra touch of elegance.
