Description

Ingredients

  • 2 sheets puff pastry, thawed
  • 4 cups whole milk
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 8 eggs, separated
  • 3 teaspoons vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Roll out the puff pastry sheets and bake for 15-18 minutes until golden brown. Let cool.
  3. In a saucepan, heat milk over medium heat until warm but not boiling.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together egg yolks, sugar, and flour until smooth.
  5. Slowly add warm milk to the egg mixture, whisking constantly.
  6. Return mixture to the saucepan and cook over medium heat, stirring continuously until thickened.
  7. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract. Let custard cool.
  8. Spread the custard over one puff pastry sheet, then top with the second sheet.
  9. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours before slicing into squares and serving.

Dust with powdered sugar or drizzle with melted chocolate for an extra touch of elegance.
