Description

This Bang Bang Chicken Fried Rice combines crispy fried chicken with a creamy, spicy-sweet bang bang sauce and perfectly seasoned fried rice. Packed with bold flavors and textures, it’s a restaurant-quality dish you can make at home in just 45 minutes.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Fried Rice:

  • 1½ cups cooked white rice (preferably day-old)
  • 1 shallot, chopped (or half a small onion)
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp fresh ginger, minced (or ¼ tsp ground ginger)
  • 1 tsp red pepper flakes (adjust to taste)
  • ¾ cup frozen peas and carrots (or any vegetable mix)
  • 2 tsp sesame oil
  • 4 tbsp soy sauce (or tamari for gluten-free)
  • 2 eggs

For the Bang Bang Sauce:

  • ½ cup mayonnaise (or Greek yogurt for a lighter version)
  • 2 tbsp garlic chili paste
  • 2 tbsp spicy honey (or regular honey plus hot sauce)
  • 2 tbsp sriracha
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp black pepper

For the Chicken:

  • 2 chicken breasts, diced
  • ¼ cup flour (or gluten-free flour blend)
  • ¼ cup cornstarch
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • ¼ cup water (add 1 tbsp at a time if needed)
  • ½ cup frying oil

Optional Garnish:

  • Green onions, chopped
  • Extra sriracha or spicy honey drizzle

Instructions

  1. Coat and Fry the Chicken: In a bowl, combine chicken, flour, cornstarch, salt, pepper, and water. Mix until coated. Heat oil in a wok or pan. Fry chicken in batches for 10-12 minutes until golden and crispy. Drain on paper towels.
  2. Prepare the Fried Rice Base: In the same pan, sauté shallot, garlic, and ginger for 30-60 seconds until fragrant. Add red pepper flakes and vegetables; cook for 1-2 minutes.
  3. Master the Perfect Fried Rice: Add rice to the pan, breaking up clumps. Drizzle sesame oil and soy sauce, stirring to combine. Push rice to one side, scramble eggs on the other, then mix together.
  4. Create the Perfect Bang Bang Sauce: Whisk together mayonnaise, garlic chili paste, spicy honey, sriracha, salt, and pepper. Toss crispy chicken in the sauce until coated.
  5. Assemble Your Dish: Divide fried rice among plates, top with saucy chicken, and garnish with green onions and extra sriracha or honey if desired.

Notes

Use day-old rice for the best texture. Don’t overmix the chicken batter. Fry in batches to maintain crispiness. For a presentation-worthy dish, use a ring mold to shape the rice before topping with chicken.
